I really don't know how to start and this has been a long, confusing and a difficult time for me. I will try to break it up into steps to make it easier for you to understand.
1 Grade 11: Wanted to do Dentistry. Planned to go to India but a college student(ms in genetic engineering) told me that it sucked and she knew ppl who had studied in India and studying overseas was a better option.My aim was to ultimately specialize in Usa so this option did not quite work out. I found out in May.
2 Grade 12: Had no choice but to register for Sats. Did badly because it was in the middle of exams and my 1st try without any preparation. So my father said that Canada was a better choice because the colleges were as good as Us colleges and cheaper. As I did not know anything approximately Canadian colleges I went to a college couselor to help me out wit my choices. She gave me 5 out of which I got accepted into Ubc and Dalhousie University for Science.But she said that Australia was a better option since it was cheaper and Dentistry was an undergrad. measure. Uk could have been my best choice but I was too late to apply to Uk for Dentistry.So Australia was a better selection and according to her Uk and Australia were on par for Science. We believed her as we thought that she was correct as an experienced college counselor. She wanted me to first go to Australia for Bsc. and then eventually receive into Dentistry. After I got admission, in the end she told us that I should ditch Australia and go to India.This was because there were only 5 seats for International students out of 300 and the chances of getting in were too low. She did not tell us before when we were applying. Perhaps she did not know.... I had scrapped India because it was difficult to go to Us for specialization at least in Australia even if I did not manage to make it to Us at least I would have a good measure because Uk and Australian degrees are well known.
It was pointless to keep running around. My parents then told me to go for Pharmacy(that's what I liked at first but I wanted to go for Dentistry because it was different- 2 Pharmacists in my family). I have decided to go for Pharmacy in Us now and whether I don't receive in for Pharmacy then I will go into Biotechnology or Microbiology. I have no selection but to sit back for a whole year because these courses begin only in Fall 2011 and I have graduated in April 2010. When I came to know about the Australia issue it was already May end. I really have no selection and I feel horrible. All my friends are in college and they are really enjoying themselves and I have to sit back for a whole year just because the counselor misled me. She admitted that she made a mistake but I still feel horrible about sitting back for a whole year. What is even more worse is that I keep getting flak from my brother who keeps telling me what a loser I am for not going to college!! I can't help it!! It was not even my decision.
This how it was:
India year---> Usa
Unfortuantely that does sound like a horrible experience. What a horrible counselor and misleading track of study. It really is unfortunate that you have to take a year off, but make the most of it. Receive a job, travel, volunteer at a hospital (in the pharmacy) if you can. Honestly, looking back, I wish I would have taken a year off before I went to college. I find myself burning out very quickly and even though I work tough I'v ejust had some health and personal problems that have hindered by grades a little bit.
Don't listen to your brother, there are plenty of people out there who take what's called a gap year before they attend college.
Talk to a counselor at Educationusa (see link below) about the possibility of starting at Us community college in January of 2011 and transferring to a major university in the fall of 2011. You might be able to take coursework in the summer too. In the meantime, get a job or at least a volunteer job. See if you can shadow (observe) a dentist and a pharmacist at work. Check into other careers as well.
Sorry i dont feel like re reading that but what are you doing here go over to Youtube and watch videos on the topic you will be majoring in...try to memorize it all before the first day of school! You have a year to study it......
