I am 17, overweight and Type 1 Diabetic. I have not had my period in over a year, and told this to my Endocrinologist when I saw her last week. She prescribed to me a generic once a day birth control pill. I started taking it yesterday and am wondering when I can expect to begin having my period again. Someone told me it can take up to 3 months for the medication to kick in. What should I be expecting?

And for all the negative comments, don't bother... I know that losing weight would help my situation.

Alot of times periods kick in within the first 30 days, but could definitely take longer. Notwithstanding, just going on birth control pills may not be enough to get you back into routine. I'd wait 2 months and see how it works out. Whether nothing, go back to your physician or see a gynecologist (might be better). Good luck.
