I was switched around to a few different pills by my doctor. I started on Yaz back in December of 2009 and because of a lot of breakthrough bleeding problems, my doctor decided to put me on Kariva, a generic form of Mircette. I started it correct away after my final Yaz pack. I have one pack of Kariva pills and I am going to be taking my 8th day of the Kariva today. How long will it take for the Kariva to get into my system enough that I can have condomless sex without pregnancy worries? I read in the packet that it was 7 days. I will not be having sex until the day I take my 19th tablet in the back (an active one). Will I be protected?

Next part of the question is approximately starting another new pill. The company I ordered medicine from sent me Azurette to take after I finish the Kariva. I called them up and they said that both pills had the same amounts of the medication in them. Same exact pill, different company. When I begin to take the Azurette, will I have to follow the 7 days of back-up protection' again?

Sorry for the complicated questions! Any thoughts would be appreciated!

You are technically protected after seven days, but it never hurts to use a back-up method for the first pack when you begin a new pill. I would personally have my partner use a condom, but you should be able to have sex without a condom and not have any problems. Since your new pills are the same medication as your old one, you shouldn't need to use a back-up method. Best of luck!
