The doctor prescribes an analgesic and a muscle relaxant.

1.Mr. Smith mentions he likes to have a beer or two after work to help him unwind. Why could drink ingestion be dangerous when a patient is taking analgesics? 2.Mr. Smith mentions he took acetaminophen for the arthritis but it did not provide relief. Why is acetaminophen not very effective in treating arthritis?

3.What patient education should be if with muscle relaxants?

1. Alcohol can intensify the effect of narcotics and whether there is tylenol in the hurting med, it can be taxing on the liver along with the drink.
2. Tylenol isn't an Nsaid (non steroidal anti-inflammatory), arthritis has inflammation of the joint, so the patient would be better with an Nsaid like Aleve or Advil.
3. To be careful, they can make you tired or lethargic, especially whether the patient is elderly, he needs to be extra careful. Also a lower dose may be indicated (5 mg flexeril over the usual 10 mg dose).
