How long does Xanax stay in your system?

This has nothing to do with a urine test. I tried googling it but it's all related to people taking drug tests. I don't care if it's in my urine, that's not my impeach. I take 0.5 mg dosage. My xanax bottle from Cvs says take every 4 hours as needed for anxiety/panic attacks. Isn't that too much? Every 4 hours? Is Xanax out of my system within 4 hours? Whether not, then wouldn't that be nearly overdosing on it? It's very potent. Any ideas?

Xanax has a shorter half life than some other benzodiazepines. This means that it hits you harder, but only for a shorter period of time than other similar drugs. Research the half-life of Xanx and you will find your answer. I believe after approximately 4 hours half of the drug is broken down in your body, and after approximately 8 it has been fully broken down.
