I have sever panik attacks, so bad that it causes me to vomit on a daily basis. I recently started taking Xanax. It's great, I can go out and have no trouble with my anxiety. Now though, i'm worried that when my perscription runs out that i might have relapses. Is this true? Do I have to take this stuff forever?
Xanax is a treatment, not a cure. It can be part of a cure if it allows you to work on controlling your response. If you're not afraid of panicking, it can help you focus on controlling the anxiety. but this comes from therapy combined with the prescription. If you're just taking the drug, you will be the same when you stop. Try to use the reduced anxiety to give you the freedom to let go of the anxiety rather than fitting afraid of fitting afraid, which will spiral into a panic attack.
