I had a sore throat 1 week before July 4th. Within 8 hours of having a burning scratchy feeling i my throat, my throat got real poor. I was in distress the entire night. I went the next morning to the physician. They did a quick strep swab tets and it came back positive. I was given penicillin Vk 4x's daily for 10 days.
Within 1 1/2 days I was back to normal. I continued on the meds as told. On the 8th day I could not find my Penicillin Vk bottle. Since I had been beter for so long I figured I'd be okay. 2 days later I find the Penicillin and continue taking it. My toncils got a little swollen with no hurting. So I went back to the doctor. She said stop the Penicillin and start taking the Zithromax. I took the Zithromax for 5 days on time everyday. 2 or 3 days after I finished it I noticed my toncils were a tad swollen, I figured the would return to normal soon. Within a few days I started having intermittent nausea, soft bowel movements, fatigue. I rode it out for a few days. Went to an Ent on Tuesday which was 5 or 6 days after I finished the Zithromax. He was not at all concerned by my toncils. He said I appeared to have some allergies and silent reflux ( acid reflux that doesnt come all the way up). I asked him could the strep had survived? He said he didnt think so and sent me home. I left there and went directly to my physician. They said it was a month was a long time for one to be sick. They wanted to to bloodwork. They tested for mono and did a Cbc and another quick strep swab. Mono was negative and Cbc looked perfect. Strep was negative but how accurate are the instant swab tests and how acurate can they be after only 7 days of Penicillin and five days of Zithromax? The doctor said my toncils had some inflammation but not bad, she said I must have a viral infection. What? What are the odds of havving strep, and a virus in the same month?
My wife caught the strep from me. She or anyone else has not caught this virus Nowadays is wednesday. 1 day after the bloodwork. The nausea hasnt happened today, appetite is still not what it usually is but I am eating and drinking lots of liquids, my fatigue is a little better, I am now having pains on the correct and left side of my middle back, the pains in my back are not consistent, tehy come and go, my urine is not discolored.

From the day I lost my penicillin I have been in absolute fear of rheumatic fever or kidney damage. I have not had a fever at anytime during this battle with strep. No rashes, no heart palpitation, no diarhea (except for when on zithromax but zithromax does that to me), no swelling of joints, no vomiting.

Sorry this took so long but I needed to share as much as possible. I cannot get back to the doctor anytime soon. i have to work for the next 4 days. I am worried b/c of how tired I am whether I will even make it throught the 10 hour shifts. Whether I develop anyother symptoms, particularly fever I will go to pressing care which is a place we have for stuff thats not quite an emergency.
