Several months ago I had a surgery to remove a piece of metal from inside my leg. I was out mowing the grass and part of the lawn mower blade somehow broke off and shot into my leg. When I went to the physician, he said I had E. coli in my leg. I was on Cipro for 20 days. How was it possible that I got E. coli from the blade? Doesn't it only exist in the digestive tract? Also, I still have numbness in the foot/ankle region on that leg. Wili I regain feeling again?

This incident occurred in November 2009

E. coli comes from feces. the blade could picked up some dog or cat poo.
Numbness indicates a nerve was damaged. this can take a year to heal.

It's possible you mowed over some kind of animal feces that remained on the blade. Also rain can carry all sorts of matters into the dirt around your yard.

I don't know about the numbness. That sounds like a impeach for your doctor.
