Valium continues to be used as a mild sedative to reduce anxiety and place patients in a drowsy and cooperative state before a medical procedure. Doses from as low as 5-10mg Iv will work for most patients. Doses seldom exceed 20mg, even in very large patients. Some patients would describe this state of intellect as trance-like.
Oral dosing will provide a similar effect, but the onset of the effect is slower. Valium has a high therapeutic index, meaning the range from a safe dose to a dangerous dose is very large. It is very safe if not mixed with alcohol or other sedatives.
Longer term use of Valium for generalized anixety is safe, but leads to avoidance of stess management and can cause a psychological addiction. Physical addiction to Valium is infrequent (physical discomfort and withdrawal symptoms on cessation) but does happen.
Without condoning self-experimentation, one message to take away is that whether a person feels the need to experiment with drugs, at least Valium is safer than most.
No........you don't even know what trance means.
