Hey I've had a stiff sore neck for three days. I've used ice, heat, muscle relaxants, and seen a massage therapist. My massage therapist figured that i could have a viral infection, and im in pain. I have not been in an accident or done anything that i know of to set this off. It started suddenly. What else can i do, and why is this happening?
That happened to me a while ago, I woke up with a sore neck. Its generally more painful on one side. I went to a physio, Chiro, used ice, heat.... had a massage.
None of that works, apparently the hurting goes absent itself. I had it once that lasted for 4 days, but once it lasted 7 days.
If theres still hurting after a week go back and see a doctor.
You have a muscle that tightened up, or went into spasm, either would have this type of result. When you have tight muscles you shouldn't use ice on them, they try to make something that is already small smaller, so you would be increasing your hurting level rather than helping it. To receive rid of the pain is the best, of course and you can do that by releasing your neck muscles. Here is how to release them:
Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle backside your head. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. After 45 seconds, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds.
With your neck in the lowered position, replace your thumbs in under the ears and your fingers behind your head but correct next to your cranium this time. Press your fingers and thumbs together again and hold. Relax your body while waiting. When the muscles have all released, slowly lift your head until it level again, release the pressure but hold your head like that for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
try making a rice bag (google it) and put it on your neck
You can try to put a hot towel on it. That may help
