Does xanax work for relieving anxiety?

I just started taking lexapro again, I just can't operate with my anxiety and need something quick I'm going to the doctor's today, I was just wondering whether anyone who has taken xanax for anxiety, did it work? or is there a different medication that works quick?

I also was taking lexapro but my insurance didn't cover it so they switched me on to something similar, lexapro is for long term and takes awhile to start working. I also have xanax and that's a fast acting med. and it works very well for me for my panic attacks and anxiety.
