I have been diagnosed with bipolar and have been looking into the medication aspect. I will be going through counseling as well, but what are the best medications that you have found?

No Lithium! That sh is poisonous and can make you have the same symptoms that a person with Ied would have.

I am bipolar, and I take Lithium Er. The only side affect I have had from it so far is hypothyroidism. I have to take synthroid to keep my thyroid regulated, but other than that no other side affects. I have not gone poisonous at all and I have been on it for over a year.

I used to work in an institution and many of our patients took different meds for the same condition. The only way to find out what's best for you is trial and error. Some meds may work well for one person and do nothing for someone else. Some meds may work well in controlling the bipolar tendencies, but may make you nauseous. You just have to let the Dr. recommend one and try it. If it doesn't do well, then you just go back to the Dr. and have him change your script'. It may take a couple of tries before you find the correct one

Good luck and keep your head up.
