I am going to be a sophomore in college and I need a new car because the transmission in my old car went out. Instead of fixing it (1987 Mercury Grand Marquis) we decided to just receive a new one, since I was going to be getting a new one eventually besides. The main thing is that it be reliable, get decent mileage and be cheap to fix. I plan on going to pharmacy school, so I would like this car to last me at least 5 years.
Don'T buy a Dodge whether your looking for a reliable car! Omg!
reliable - Honda Civic (when's the final time you saw a Civic broken down on the side of the road? gas mileage- Honda Civic (economical 1.6 L engine)
Cheap to fix- Honda Civic (honda has sold millions! their fantastic cars, Very dependable and great on gas. There is a reason you see them on the road Everywhere!
I don't own a Civic Lol!
Cars don't maintain themselves. Find something that has been properly taken care of.
Avoid anything from Japan or Korea because they have high repair costs and will often leave you with nothing to drive while you wait for ordered parts to come in. The also don last as long as American or European cars. Even the ones assembled in America are built with low quality imported Japanese parts that fact being said I propose a Chevy Camaro, Dodge Challenger or Ford Mustang for sports cars.
Chevy Cobalt, Chevy Malibu Ford Focus for practical cars. Jeep Liberty for off road fun.
I have helped my friends fix Hondas more times than I can count while listening to them trying to convince me that they are fantastic cars..........sigh. Some are just delusional I guess.
If you are looking for a new car, I suggest that you give a little effort in choosing something that fits your safety concerns. Talking about safety concerns, the King Midget hasn't been mass produced since the 70's because it is said that it wasn't safe to use. However, it was known to get 50-70 miles per gallon very easily. What baffles me though isn't the safety needs, it is how as early as 1946 there was a vehicle on the market that could get so many MPG's, and yet today very few automobiles get that high of millage. If you aren't worried about the risk of this vehicle getting in a wreck, it may be worth taking out a vehicle loan to buy one.
