My son has a infection in the gums that is causing facial swelling and hurting. His mouth is full of metal- braces, a palatal bar, rubber bands everywhere, etc. He was prescribed Clindamycin in liquid form because he can't take pills (they receive caught in his palatal bar, causing him to vomit). He took one sip of the liquid and spit it out and is absolutely refusing to take it anymore calling it the most disguisting thing he has ever tasted.

I am very worried because the swelling on the side of his face is pronounced. I have already explained what can happen whether he doesn't take the medicine. What should I do?

Put it in ice cream, jam or pudding and he will manage to gulp it down. Tell him he can finish the rest of the treat when the medicine part is gone.

well you could scare him into saying he could die but id only do that if it was your last resort. but whether i were you give him like a mountain dew with it or what ever his favorite fountain drink is along with the liquid medicine. Note: do not always convince him with soda or else he could think he can get his way by you giving him awards

I'm tempted to believe that those doctors are like most doctors who are pretty disgusting, but I really can't say. This is dreadfully terrible.

Call the office that prescribed the meds and ask if it can be added to liquid or food or whether the pharmacy can add one of those liquid flavors they now have to make it atleast be a taste your son can get down. I know how frustrating metal braces and headgear and all that type of thing can be as I had numerous of those things as a kid. Call the office and ask them if there is anything else you can do. It also might take a stern talking to and maybe his father or a friend could help in a situation like this - as mothers we are not miracle workers and don't always sound stern enough to our own kids.

put the liquid meds in apple sauce or soup to hide the taste.

My mom used to say take it or I'm bringing you to the physician, and he will give it to you in a shot. That is fairly the motivator ). Otherwise try mixing it with food or drink. I used to have to have strawberry milk:

Mix it into honey. I have to take something that has a revolting flavour and honey is the only object that masks it. If you can receive some, use Manuka Honey as it has strong anti-bacterial properties which will help with the swelling.
