can A doctor ask for a bottle of pills back after he prescribed them?

I got a prescription filled of Vicoden that didnt help the hurting I was having,so the doctor prescribed me a different medication.But he first wanted my Vicoden bottle before he would prescribe me the other medication.

I had the same problem.
I asked the doctor,
He said the medicines dont mix and there is no need for it because it only helps a sure object at a sure time

Maybe he doesn't potentially want you to abuse the medication or sell it. If you have no use for the medication, you should have no trouble giving it back. If it doesn't work for you and you have no use for it, you'd probably just flush it anyway.
