Receive some warm water and put it in a cup. Then put a little bit of salt, but not too much. Close one nostril with your finger. While tilting the cup, Slowly inhale some of the salt water. It will irrigate the nasal passages. If you feel it going down your throat, don't be too concerned. Just don't put too much salt. You can also put a little bit of baking soda.

Household item? A kettle that you can boil water in and inhale the steam. The effect is unlikely to last long, notwithstanding.

Burning eucalyptus oil may help.

Fill up your bathroom sink with really hot steaming water, put a towel over your head to act as a tent and inhale the steam. Works fantastic. Whether you happen to have some eucalyptus fundamental oil to put in the water, even better.
Drink hot tea with lemon and honey and inhale the steam as you're drinking it.

I'd propose getting a Neti Pot. They are inexpensive and now you can get them at pretty much any drug store or Wal-mart. It uses a simple saline solution to clear the sinuses.

Sam, it is a bummer, I know! Boil a pot of water to create steam. Lay a small towel over your head, and lower your head so that you can breathe in the steam. It will help your nasal passages. Or, taking a hot shower will loosen up the congestion. Even drinking a hot beverage and inhaling the vapors helps.

Hope you feel better soon!

use eucalyptus essential oil which one can get at a health food store or coop or online. Be sure it is real fundamental oil. A brand commonly sold is aura cacia

Pinch one nostril and hold bottle in front of the open nostril and breathe deeply several times until it clears up. Repeat with other nostril.

When I have a stuffy nose, I cannot use my bipap machine for sleep apnea as the mask covers my face and the only way to breath is by having both nose and mouth working, I have used the product above with success. although if the bloodless is bad, it may not feel completely normal, it considerably makes it easier to breathe than not using it. It is definitely the best object I have found to help me through a stuffy nose.

This is the smell in vick's vaporub...safe and natural and not too expensive at all.

Here it is for $3.90 plus shipping

http://www.herballegacy.com/search.php?zoom Even if you do not receive it now, purchase some for the future.

You can also shake some of the eucalyptus erssential oil on a steamy shower and inhale, sprinkle on pjs and pillow, or put in a vaporizer. One can also boil some water and put some in, Being careful to let it cool enough to not burn your face and be in a safe place, put a towel over your head and hang face over the heated pan and inhale. I have also done this without the eucalyptus but that will definitely be better than just the steam but the steam may help too, till you get the eucalyptus oil. One could mix it with olive oil and rub on chest for a similar vick's vaporub effect..or vasoline whether you do not intellect using a non natural product like vasoline.

If you have a vitamix put some Fresh horseradish root in and blend and breathe it or grate some (do not put in a blender as the root is so hard, it may break the blender. This clears out the sinuses and may work.

for a bloodless, make the supertonic.

blend the following ingredients use a vitamix if you have one.
:
onions
garlic
hot peppers (as hot as you can take)
fresh horseradish (grate first before blending unless you own a vitamix) raw apple cider vinegar (braggs and spectrum are brands sold at numerous health food stores and sections of the supermarket.

you can eat as an applesauce consistency or add enough vinegar to make it 50 solids and 50 liquid. Refrigerate (put it in a glass jar) and shake daily. After 2 weeks you can strain it Take a few tbs. this is said by some to be the cure for the common cold (you can also purchase it at herbdoc.com

edit..looking over the answers I see some like the noseknows and others said some of the same things. Why cause they do help.

hmm.

Steam your face.
Boil some water on high. When it starts boiling, turn the heat down to medium. Put your face over the steam not too close to the pot of course and put a small towel over your head to trap the steam. Keep tissues next to you because you'll be blowing your nose alot during this process. This helps you to clear out your mucus.
Keep doing this until you feel like you've gotten rid of most/all the mucus, which could be approximately 5-10 minutes.
