So I was told on the 18th that I had chlamydia and some nurse and my doctor's office prescribed me Cipro for 14 days 2x a day. When I went to see my physician on the 28th she said she never prescribed that to anyone with chlamydia and said that the actual dosage was imagine to be 7 days not 14. Well just in case she gave me 2 pills of Zithromax that I took later that day. Now I do not know how long it takes for Zithromax to work but on the 1st my doctor decided to do a pap on me and the results came back saying I still had chlamydia and prescribed me Doxycycline.
Would the Zithromax still have been working at the time of the pap if the Cipro didnt work? And how effective is Doxycycline? Also does using condoms prevent spreading the infection (not that im gonna have sex just out of curiosity)??
azithromycin and doxycycline are very effective at eliminating chlamydia. I can't understand why they prescribed cipro at first. I don't know about your dosing, but the full course of zithromax should have been enough in most cases to eliminate the infection.. your physician made a good decision putting you on doxy though after not seeing enough of an improvement after a few days.
Condoms ideally stop the spread... but they are anything but ideal. There are still lots of ways to spread the bacteria even with a condom (including the opportunity of a rip). Until you get a clean screening test, it would be best to just avoid sex altogether (which it sounds like you are doing).
The 2 pills of Zithromax should work between 7-10 days. So if the physician did the pap before the 7-10 days was up, you probably still had the std. Zithromax and Doxycycline are very effective. I'm pretty certain that they cure up to 95 out of 100 cases. And condoms do help the prevention of spreading the infection, but if you have the std the doctors don't want u to chance anything and just wait the 7-10 days out. Also make sure that any partner you've had unprotected sex with within the last 60 days gets checked too, because you wouldn't want to receive reinfected.
